What’s holding you in Fragile Grief?

My Dear Community,

Recently, during a grief recovery workshop, I asked the audience, “How many of you have had someone say, ‘Just let go of your grief.’?”

One-third of the group raised their hands.

Well, easier said than done. Right? If only those who say that to a grieving person realized - we would if we could!

Fragile Grief

Our heart, mind, and body would gladly move off Pain Island. No one wants to stay stuck in Fragile Grief.  That state where you’re marooned in anguish, despair, anger, and sadness. Barely holding yourself together.

What’s holding you in this place of Fragile Grief? I want you to try the following exercise. Notice how you’re being with Fragile Grief.

And don’t worry. You can’t get this wrong.

The body tells the truth

  1. Hold your dominant arm out straight in front of you.
  2. With your other hand, clasp your wrist.
  3. Notice what you feel. Any tingles, aches, or pain in your dominant arm?
  4. Now, notice how you are holding your wrist.
  5. Is your hand on top, grabbing your arm? Or is it supporting your wrist from below?

Many of us either naturally grab or support ourselves. It is our habitual way of being.

  • Now switch positions. Notice with curiosity how this feels and what’s happening in your entire arm. Please do this without judgement. Only curiosity.

Grief is an inside-out job.

Are you supporting yourself with your choices, thoughts, and the stories you’re telling yourself? These may be holding you in fragile grief.

Love all around, above, below, to the left and to the right, before you and behind you,

Georgena
